What got me started glassblowing was the speed at which it was possible to create a work.
Glass is a material that must be handled delicately, and the joy of creating a work even today is finishing the shape without letting it cool.
Some of my works are decorated with patterns.
I create them by cutting out patterns from everyday life and carving them into the surface of glass in a shape that matches the pattern.
When I layer colored glass on the surface of the glass and then carve it, the light that passes through the glass is soft and it shows a deep expression.
I'm not particularly conscious of it, but I'm often told that I can sense a Japanese atmosphere in my works.
I would be happy if people could feel even a little of the Japanese atmosphere that exudes from my works while looking at them.
