YAMANAKA LACQUERWARE

The history of Yamanaka Lacquerware spans an incredible 350 years. The wood-lacquering technique began in the Tensho era of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, when a group of Japanese craftsman based themselves in the city of Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture to develop the art.

Functional utensils made from wood, such as bowls, plates, and even tea ceremony utensils, are given a rich intensity of color and design when treated in the Yamanakastyle.
